Even if the weather is clear, heavy rain upstream or nearby can quickly raise the river's water level. If the water suddenly turns muddy or you see branches and leaves drifting by, leave the river immediately. Flash floods can also happen, especially near mountains or upstream, so always stay alert.
In rivers with dams upstream, the water level can rise suddenly due to dam releases. Check for information in advance, and always stay alert for warning sirens while near the river.
Stay away from areas with thick vegetation along the river, as they can block your view and hide dangerous spots. You might slip or accidentally fall into the water.
In fast-flowing sections with rocks and other obstacles, trying to stand or pointing your feet downstream can lead to foot entrapment, where your foot becomes stuck between rocks. In strong currents, this is extremely dangerous as the force of the water can push your body downstream while your foot remains trapped, potentially leading to drowning.
Foot entrapment: This occurs when your foot gets trapped between rocks or other obstacles, and the strong force of the river pushes you, causing you to drown.
To avoid being swept away by the current, make sure not to step on loose rocks in the river, as they can cause you to lose your balance and fall.
When water flows against large rocks or walls, it can create “undercuts”, hollow areas beneath the surface where the force of the water erodes the rock. Stay away from these dangerous spots, as they often have strong downward currents or swirling water that can trap branches, trash, or even fishing hooks.
Avoid going near areas with V-shaped ripples in the river, as there might be concrete blocks or river piles beneath the surface.
Riverbanks without plants can flood easily after rain etc. Stay cautious.
River islands can flood when water levels rise due to rain or other reasons, making it difficult to return to the riverbank. Please be cautious.
Strong currents may hit rocks on the riverbed, causing the water to rise, swirl, or even create whirlpools.
Many accidents happen in calm-looking waters. Even if a river appears calm, its flow can be uneven due to the land shape or riverbed. Always wear a life jacket to prevent accidents.
Rivers often contain artificial structures such as concrete blocks, ground sills, or bridge piers to prevent erosion. Please Avoid getting close to them, as they can create strong or unpredictable currents.
Rocks in the river can create various types of currents depending on their size, shape, and position in the water. These rocks can generate complex flows, so it is important to avoid getting too close, especially to the upstream side of the rock.
In places where water flows around rocks or into hollows, such as small pool-shaped areas created by river structures, eddies can form. An eddy flows in the opposite direction of the main current and moves more slowly. However, it eventually returns to the main flow. Always stay alert in these areas.
If you are swept away by the current and get caught on underwater driftwood or other obstacles, the water pressure can trap your body and make it difficult to move. Be aware of this danger and stay cautious.
Fishing hooks and lines can be found anywhere in the river. If a hook gets caught in your skin, it can be painful and hard to remove. Fishing lines may also tangle around your body, making it hard to move underwater. Stay aware and be cautious.
